What We Grow

At BHG, quality isn't just about the final product—it's about the entire process. From soil health to harvest timing, every decision reflects our commitment to producing crops that meet the highest standards. In our approach we are not just thinking about this year's yield, but about the land's health for generations to come. This strategy carries through everything we grow here in the valley.

Alfalfa

Our weed-free alfalfa is carefully managed from cutting to cutting to ensure optimal nutrition and quality. In our Montana growing conditions, we typically achieve two to three cuts per year. Available in 3x4 square bales, our alfalfa provides consistent quality that partners depend on, whether for dairy operations or ranches.

Wheat

We produce high-protein spring and winter wheat selected for Montana growing conditions. Our wheat creates excellent bread, pasta, and other baked goods.

Barley

Our barley program focuses on high-quality malting varieties and seed production, meeting strict quality standards for germination and purity. We work with local malting houses like Montana Craft Malt, connecting our fields to regional breweries. When you visit a Montana brewery, you might be enjoying beer made from our barley.

Canola

Our expanding canola program represents our commitment to crop diversity and soil health. We currently raise seed canola, which can also be processed for oil production. This newer crop adds valuable rotation benefits to our farming system.

Field Peas

Our newest crop. Pea production adds valuable nitrogen to our soil. This helps maintain soil health while controlling weeds and reducing disease. Peas help maintain sustainable farming practices that benefit both current crops and future harvests.

Wheat and Barley Straw

Straw from our small grain harvest is available when conditions allow. These clean straw bales work well for livestock bedding, feed mix, and erosion control.
